Graal is the first
holiday of every year, after Silvester, which is a celebration of the
yearly breakthrough. (Encyclopedia Eon, 2En.3Ep.3Er.)
Graal is a holiday
which celebrates the birthday of the world. It is most important
especially for nordic religion, which was established to serve the
world on its path through an eternal holy war.
The world is
embodied by the wife of Scandinavian king, the first Valkyria, and
her birthday is celebrated in the first days of January. Graal lasts from the 4th January to the 9th of that month. (Anna
McDowell, 1En.2Ep.3Er.)
Graal is a holiday
of vows and pledges. It is a time when all yearly plans made at
Christmas tables start to be realised. Alliances are usually made
during Graal celebrations, even if they were decided already during
Christmas. It is traditional to wait until Graal with fulfillment of
annual plans and designs. During Graal, new army troops are
organised, new weapons start being produced, and new artworks start
being made. (Encyclopedia World, 1En.1Ep.2Er.)
One of two most
important traditions of Graal is commencement of a new work of any
chosen kind. It is traditional for everybody to create one artwork
and also to either construct or purchase one weapon. Additionally,
everyone is obliged to create or purchase new clothes, preferably a
full set of garments. (Maria Magdalos, 1En.3Ep.3Er.)
Another important
tradition of Graal is commencement of fight and sport practice. Sport
is one of main manners of spending Graal, and during this holiday
different national sports of the world are practised. Sport is one of
two life aspects, next to cuisine, which in Scandinavian culture is
comprised of all world achievements of all nationalities.
More importantly,
trainings in fight take place in the nordic society during Graal, and
new warriors are welcomed into the nordic army, usually comprised of
young members of society. Children however are never forced into the
army until they are sixteen, and before that age they can still join
upon their decision. (Anna McDowell)
An additional
tradition is commencement of scientific studies, which is never
presented as an obligation, but it is a favourite tradition
especially among children, who celebrate Graal through new choices of
school paths. (Maria Magdalos)
Graal is
celebrated through practice of work, art, trade, study, sport, and
fighting, and these activities are considered to be essential as
representations of the way of the world. (Encyclopedia World)
Traditional signs
of Graal are wine and cross, and the celebrations are always rich in
alcohol. The main starting point of the holiday is a gathering of all
society at a priorly chosen fair, and games of different kinds are
organised there. Games are the most important part of Graal, because
Graal means the sea, and the sea is always a holder of all games.
Food is not as essential during this holiday as alcohol and all kinds
of beverages. The second most important point of the holiday is
organisation of sea voyages which last for one whole day, and all
society takes part in them. The sea trips take place on the second
day of Graal, the 5th of January. (Maria Magdalos)
Graal has a second
face in the form of Grail, and they are both names for two different
types of seas: Graal is a peaceful sea of love and Grail is a sea of
war. The holiday in fact has two names, both Graal and Grail, and
before its time all the society decides what form of the holiday they
will be celebrating in a given year. Usually the decision is made
during Silvester and then announced to people. (Encyclopedia Blue
Branch, 1En.3Ep.3Er.)
